General Questions

What is Request to Pay?

Request to Pay is a messaging framework that augments existing payment infrastructure. With Request to Pay, billers can send payment requests and give the recipient the option to pay in full, in part, request an extension, send a message, or decline.

It is intended to enable payers to manage and settle their bills with greater flexibility, while also enabling billers to send payment requests and reconcile payments more efficiently. Billers and payers can have a digital conversation to facilitate bill payments.

How does Request to Pay work?

Request to Pay is a secure messaging framework that stores both biller and payer information within its network. Similar to an email server, the network consists of secure repositories that store requests and route them between billers and payers.

Every time a request is made, the biller and payer details are verified to ensure authentication and prevent fraud.

Will Request to Pay allow individuals to avoid paying their bills?

We believe Request to Pay will allow individuals to actively manage their bill payments and provide them with greater control and flexibility to meet their needs. Contractual agreements will continue to exist, and failure to meet deadlines will result in the same repercussions as they do currently.

What advantages does Request to Pay offer for billers?

Request to Pay improves the bill payment process by providing unique reference data and a digital audit trail that can facilitate bill reconciliation, and by facilitating direct digital communication with customers to support bill payments. This could reduce expenses and strengthen customer relationships.

What advantages does Request to Pay offer to bill payers?

Request to Pay is advantageous for bill payers because it gives them flexibility and control over how they manage their bills.

Workplace norms and working patterns are undergoing change. Increasing numbers of people do not have a fixed monthly income, so the ability to manage expenses more flexibly is advantageous.

What kinds of bills can be managed with Request to Pay?

Request to Pay could be used to efficiently manage nearly all types of payments, including regular utility bills, charitable donations, retail payments, and payments between individuals.

More about RTP

How can one access RTP?

You must register with one of the organizations providing the service. After registering and linking your bank account, you will be able to send requests using your preferred provider and method (app, web, etc.)

How does RTP save money for billers?
Request to Pay could assist in cost reduction by allowing billers to send invoices as attachments, thereby reducing potential postal fees and administration costs. In addition, it will aid in facilitating direct communication with customers, potentially streamlining payment inquiries.

In addition, direct bank payments reduce transactions by an average of 46% compared to credit and debit card payments. As billers will set the reference when requesting funds, payment reconciliation will also be simplified.
What sets Request to Pay apart from other similar (bill management) services?
Similar services are not entirely open (requests can only be sent to and from users of the same provider) and restrict how and when contacts can be paid.

Request to Pay is unique in that any user, regardless of whether their bank offers the service, can send and receive requests. Additionally, it allows you to manage your bills alongside payments to family and friends, regardless of the service they use. As long as you continue to comply with legal requirements, you may then pay how and when you choose.

Payments and Payment Initiation Service (PIS)

How often are payouts made with Payment Initiation Service?
Payments made via Payment Initiation Service (PIS) are directly transferred from the customer’s bank account to the merchant’s account.

Approximately 90% of payments are instant payments and are completed within a few seconds.

When instant transfer is not possible, the funds will be transferred every few hours on business days as SEPA payments. Regular payments initiated on weekends and holidays will be credited to the merchant’s account between 8:45 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on the following business day.

Bank links refer to the method of payment that allows customers to make payments directly from their bank account through a secure link. Payment initiation refers to the process of initiating a payment from a customer’s bank account.

With our bank payment solution, customers can use bank links to initiate a payment from their bank account and complete the payment process through our platform.

Payment initiation is a key feature of our bank payment solution, allowing merchants to accept payments directly from their customers’ bank accounts.

How do bank payments work?

For example, when a customer is checking out in an online store, after accepting payment, they can select their bank from the options provided and will be directed to the bank’s website for authentication.

The customer will then confirm the payment and will be redirected back to the store or RTP. The payment is transferred directly from the customer’s bank account to the merchant’s account.
How exactly does a payment gateway function?
A payment gateway is a digital conduit that routes customer payments to the merchant’s bank account. It is an indispensable tool for e-commerce businesses that accept payments. Using a payment gateway to complete a transaction is quick and simple.

When a customer submits an order, the payment gateway verifies whether sufficient funds are available in the customer’s bank account to cover the purchase by contacting the issuing bank or the card processor. The Payment Initiation Service (PIS) offers a streamlined and secure payment process.
How to select the ideal payment platform?

Choosing the appropriate payment gateway is a crucial choice that can make or break a business. It depends on the type of services your business provides, the number of payment methods you wish to accept, and the ease with which your customers will be able to make a purchase.
